What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed below the gumline, within the jawbone. Because they’re made from biocompatible titanium, they’re able to fuse with the bone through a process called osseointegration. After this has occurred, your implants will be ready to support any type of dental restoration, including a free-standing crown, bridge, or denture, restoring the function and appearance of your smile.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  1. Consultation: At your consultation, you’ll meet with Dr. Snow or Dr. Hudson to discuss your tooth loss situation and receive a thorough examination. Based on their findings, your dentist will create a treatment plan to help restore your smile with dental implants and walk you through it.
  2. Placement: After you decide to move forward with your treatment, the next step will be to refer you out to our expert to have your dental implants placed. This process will take place under dental sedation to help you remain comfortable.
  3. Healing: For the following three to six months after your dental implant placement, your implants will fuse with your jawbone and your gums will heal. Then, you’ll return to our office to have your abutments, which are small metal connector pieces, attached to the top of your implants.
  4. Restoration: After your gums have healed from your abutment placement and our team has received your final restoration, we’ll have you come back into the office to secure your final restoration to the dental implants.
